Unearth has announced the following updated North American tour dates with All That Remains, As I Lay Dying, and Carnifex:

Nergal's Illness Confirmed to be Leukemia; Nergal Awaiting Marrow Transplant

Behemoth frontman and lead guitarist Nergal's illness has been confirmed to be leukemia. According to the Polish news site TVP, the disease has advanced to the point where chemotherapy can no longer be an effective treatment and can only be cured through a bone marrow transplant.
Within the country of Poland, there are only 100,000 donors out of a population of 38,192,000. Nergal's fiance Doda has already donated her bone marrow but it's unknown if her bone marrow will provide a DNA match.

System of A Down faced Fight or Flight

System of a Down went on hiatus four years ago because the band would have split for good if they hadn't, says bassist Shavo Odadjian.
Speculation occasionally surfaces that the Armenian-American alt-metallers will reform. It doesn't look likely right now, but at least some of the band are optimistic there's some kind of a future for them.
Back in 2006 that future didn't look bright, and Odadjian says taking a break was the only way of ensuring there would be anything to look forward to.

Send Metallica into Space!

NASA has announced a new “Wake-up Song Contest” to allow the public to choose just what songs the crew will hear on the final flight of the space shuttle Discovery this November. While the voting is, unfortunately, limited to a list of 40 previously played songs (so sadly, no “Flight of Icarus” or “Space Oddity”), there are still some intriguing choices available for voters, including Metallica’s “Enter Sandman,” 3 Doors Down’s “Kryptonite,” Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin” and “Blue Sky” by Big Head Todd. The top two vote-getters will wake up the crew on their 11-day mission.

Sebastian Bach Nixes Skid Row Reunion

Speaking recently on Orlando’s Real Radio 104.1, Sebastian Bach fielded a series of questions about whether or not he was interested in reuniting with his ex-bandmates, who are still touring under the Skid Row moniker.

“Let me answer it as honestly as I can,” said Bach. “You’re talking about when Skid Row was last good - we broke up in '96, but I don't even count that – I would say ’91 was when we were last really a good band. I just don’t live in 1991 in 2010, and I’m talking about four other guys that I haven’t seen in 15 years.”

Biography of Joey Jordison Slipknot's #1

Early life
Jordison was born at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa on April 26, 1975. He grew up in a rural area outside of Waukee. He embraced music at an early age, which he attributes to the influence of his parents: "they always sat me down in front of the radio, rather than the TV." He played guitar until receiving his first drum kit as a gift from his parents at age eight, and started his first band while in elementary school. At a young age Jordison's parents divorced; he and his two younger sisters stayed with their mother. His mother remarried and set up a funeral parlor where Jordison would occasionally help. Jordison has stated he felt a sudden responsibility to be the man of the house, and this responsibility turned him into a more mature person at a young age.

Jordison did not enjoy his time at school, admitting he "was really introverted and didn't have many friends." His grades suffered due to his focus on music. Despite being involved in multiple projects, he did not have his first serious band until he was fifteen. He formed Modifidious in which he played drums. He later described them as "total speed-metal thrash". The band helped Jordison break new ground, playing for live crowds in support of local bands including Atomic Opera, which featured Jim Root, and Heads On The Wall, which featured Shawn Crahan. After a multitude of line-up changes including the presence of Craig Jones and Josh Brainard—who would later appear in Slipknot—the band released two demos in 1993: Visceral and Mud Fuchia.

Headbanging

Headbanging is a type of dance which involves violently shaking the head in time with music, most commonly rock music and heavy metal music.

Origin
The term "headbanger" was coined during Led Zeppelin's first US tour in 1969. During a show at the Boston Tea Party, audience members at the first row were banging their heads against the stagein rhytm with the music.

Lemmy from Motorhead, however, said in an interview on the documentary The Decline of Western Civilization II: The Metal Years, that the term "headbanger" may have originated in the band's name, as in "Motorheadbanger".

Guitar Shredding

History
In 1974, the German band Scorpions used their new guitarist Ulrich Roth for their album Fly to the Rainbow, for which the title track features Roth performing "...one of the most menacing and powerful whammy-bar dive bombs ever recorded". A year later, Roth's solo guitar playing for the album In Trance "...would become the prototype for shred guitar. Everything associated with the genre can be found on this brilliant collection of songs - sweep-picked arpeggios, diminished minor harmonic scales, finger-tapping and ...jaw-dropping whammy-bar abuse". In 1979, Roth left Scorpions to begin his own power trio, named "Electric Sun"; his debut album Earthquake contained "...heaps of spellbinding fret gymnastics...and nimble-fingered classical workouts." In 1978, a "heretofore unknown guitarist named Eddie Van Halen" from Los Angeles released "'Eruption', a blistering aural assault of solo electric guitar" which featured rapid "tapping", which "had rarely been heard in a rock context before." Chris Yancik argues that it is this "record, above any other, that spawned the genre of Shred." Randy Rhoads, and Swedish guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen incorporated classical influences with complex guitar compositions.

Gus G's new signature ESP Revolver EC

Well this is kind of interesting, now that Gus G (Firewind member and ESP Guitarist) is playing with Ozzy he has opted to switch to one of ESP guitars’ Les Paul style shape rather than his semi-pointy (well it does have rounded corners) Gus G.

How to Read Guitar Tablature (Tabs)

The following tutorial will help to explain to you the basic concept of reading guitar tab. Although it may seem complex, learning to read tab is quite simple, and you should find yourself reading tab easily in no time.

1. Understanding the Tab Staff
A tab staff for guitar has 6 horizontal lines, each one representing a string of the instrument. The bottom line of the staff represents your lowest "E" string, the second line from the bottom represents your "A" string, etc. Easy enough to read, right?

Warming Up with Chord Fingering

Guitar fingering is a very important issue to consider when playing guitar chords or guitar scales. What might be an easy, no strain set of finger placements could easily turn to nightmare if you don't pay attention to your guitar fingering. For instance, a lots of people would even use their thumb to grab the low E string when playing some guitar chord, G major for example. Although there are some extremely rare situations when you use your left thumb to press a bass string, a rule of a thumb is - not to use it!
